Overtime shows in waistline

A recent University of Helsinki study confirms yet another danger of overwork. It found exhausting work, coupled with problems balancing work and family, puts employees at risk of gaining weight. Those suffering from work fatigue and working lots of overtime showed clear increases in weight.

Difficulties balancing work and family commitments increased the risk of weight gain more for women than men.

A member of the research team says, “After a tough day at work it is very easy to grab some fast food and treat yourself to something sweet, although you know it is not good for you. Working long hours also means you don’t have time to exercise.”
